Welcome to Steno Dictionary ("we", "our", "the App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our Android application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.

Information We Do NOT Collect

We want to be clear about what we do not do:

• We do not collect personal information (name, email, phone number)
• We do not create user accounts or require registration
• We do not sell or share any data with third parties
• We do not access your contacts, camera, or location

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The App stores the following data locally on your device only using Android's SharedPreferences:

• Favorite Words — words you mark as favorites for quick access
• Search History — recently viewed words (limited to 50 entries)
• Word of the Day — the current day's featured word cache

This data never leaves your device. You can clear this data at any time through the App's interface or by clearing the App's data in your device settings.

Internet Permission & Network Usage

The App requires internet access for the following purposes only:

• Loading shorthand outline images — word images are loaded from our server (stenotest.com) when you view a word's details
• App updates — checking for and downloading app updates via Google Play's in-app update mechanism

All network communication is encrypted using HTTPS. No personal data is transmitted during these requests.

Text-to-Speech

The App uses your device's built-in Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine to pronounce words. This feature operates entirely on your device and does not send any data over the internet.

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• Google Play In-App Updates — to deliver app updates. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy
• Coil (Image Loading Library) — to load and cache images locally. Coil does not collect any user data

Children's Privacy

Steno Dictionary is an educational tool suitable for all ages. Since we do not collect any personal information from any user, we are compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations.

Data Security

We take the following measures to protect your data:

• All network communication uses HTTPS encryption
• No personal data is collected or transmitted
• Local data is stored using Android's standard secure storage mechanisms
• The App enforces a network security configuration that blocks cleartext (HTTP) traffic
