Privacy Policy

Introduction

Welcome to WB PSC Clerkship Typing. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use our Android application (package com.stenotest.wbtyping) and related services available through stenotest.com.

Information We Collect

Depending on how you use the App, we may collect:

• Account information such as username, email address, mobile number, gender, country, state/region, and password when you register or log in. The App may offer Google’s account picker so you can choose an email, and Google’s Phone Number Hint API so you can select your phone number from a system-provided interface. We do not read your Google account or phone number unless you select them.
• Authentication data such as mobile access tokens and basic account profile details needed to keep you signed in
• Typing test data such as the passage you attempted, the text you typed, time taken, backspaces, speed, accuracy, marks, qualifying status, and related scoring details
• Leaderboard and profile data such as your username and test statistics, which may be shown to other users of the App
• Technical request data such as IP address, app version, request metadata, and user agent information required to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The App stores some data locally on your device for convenience, including:

• Login state including your mobile auth token and basic profile details if you choose to sign in

You can clear locally stored app data through your device settings or by logging out. Server-side account, test attempt, and leaderboard data may still remain in your StenoTest account unless you ask us to delete it where applicable.

Internet Permission and Network Usage

The App uses internet access for the following purposes:

• Account features including registration, login, OTP login, logout, and session checks
• Passages and tests to load WB PSC Clerkship English passages and submit practice or exam attempts for scoring
• Results, profile, and leaderboard to show your scores and compare performance
• App version checks so we can tell you when a required update is available on Google Play

Supported app-server communication uses HTTPS encryption. Our server may process standard technical logs such as IP address, request path, and user agent for delivery, security, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting.

How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

• Create and manage optional user accounts
• Authenticate users and keep account-based features working in the App
• Score typing tests against the WB PSC Clerkship English pattern and show results
• Provide profile history and leaderboards
• Secure the service, prevent abuse, and investigate technical issues

Information Visible to Other Users

If you take tests while signed in, your username and related performance statistics (such as speed, accuracy, and number of tests) may appear on in-app leaderboards and top-performer lists. We do not display your email address, mobile number, or password on those lists.

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following services or components:

• Google Play Services for optional email account picker and phone-number hint during login or registration. See Google's Privacy Policy
• StenoTest backend infrastructure to serve passages, authentication, scoring, profile, and leaderboard functionality

This version of the App does not include Google AdMob, Firebase Cloud Messaging, or in-app advertising SDKs. If we add advertising or other third-party services later, we will update this policy.

What We Do Not Access by Default

The App does not request or access the following device data by default:

• Contacts
• Precise GPS location (country and state are typed or selected by you at registration)
• SMS, call logs, camera, microphone, or photos
• Advertising ID

Phone Number and Email Handling

When you choose to register or log in, the App may provide a system interface powered by Google Play Services that allows you to select your email or phone number from your device.

This process is fully user-controlled. The App does not automatically access, read, or collect your phone number or Google account without your explicit selection.

Your phone number and email are used for account creation, login, OTP verification, and authentication. We do not access your contacts or retrieve your phone number silently.

Children's Privacy

WB PSC Clerkship Typing is intended for a general audience preparing for a government typing test. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the App, please contact us so we can review and address the issue where appropriate.

Data Security

We take reasonable measures to help protect user data, including:

• HTTPS-based encrypted network communication for supported app-server traffic
• Local storage through Android's standard app sandbox mechanisms
• Bearer-token based authentication for mobile account features
• Android network security settings that block cleartext HTTP traffic in the app

Data Retention and Deletion

Local app data remains on your device until it is replaced, cleared by you, or removed when the App is uninstalled. Account and typing-attempt data stored on our server may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the service, maintain records, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations.

You may request deletion of your StenoTest account and related data at stenotest.com/data-deletion.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
